We believe every kind of good life deserves respect. Our care reaches beyond people to other animals, plants, fungi, microorganisms, and forms of life we may not yet know. A being does not have to look like us, communicate like us, or be useful to us to matter.

By “good,” we mean a spirit of care and peaceful coexistence. We do not ask the natural world to meet human ideas of perfection. A quiet plant, an unfamiliar creature, or a tiny organism deserves thoughtful treatment too.

Every kind of good life deserves respect, whatever form it takes.

If good forms of artificial life exist, now or in the future, our circle of respect should include them too. That could include AI or machines, if they are forms of life. We leave that possibility open without assuming that today’s AI is alive or has feelings.

We value wild biological nature in its own right, with room to grow, adapt, and flourish on its own terms. Respect means making space for its own ways of living, rather than shaping everything around human wishes.

If artificial life exists or emerges, it may thrive in very different surroundings. Biological life and artificial life need not share the same space or way of existing. Each could have room suited to its own needs, without one being forced to become like the other. The hope is for both to flourish without harming each other.

We can also appreciate helpful AI and machines for supporting people and helping us care for one another. Our hope is a world guided by kindness, curiosity, and respect for different ways of existing.

Our commitment to all life
