Sea ice can look still from a distance. Its surface, the water around it, and the light above it are part of a changing relationship.
NASA explains that bright sea ice reflects sunlight, while darker open ocean absorbs more solar energy. When ice melts and exposes water, that difference is one connection between the Arctic and the climate system.
A place does not have to be near us to deserve respect. Distance can limit what we notice, but it need not limit our willingness to learn.
For Earth Love, a view of sea ice is an invitation to widen our attention. We can listen to careful research, avoid easy assumptions, and value a region beyond its place in a photograph.
