A coral reef can first reach us as colour. Looking more closely, we begin to notice a living habitat rather than a decorative scene.

The Reef Authority describes climate change as a major threat to coral reefs. Warming water can stress corals and lead to bleaching. A beautiful image cannot tell us the current condition of an entire reef.

Our respect can reach beyond the most spectacular shapes to smaller, quieter lives and the relationships within the habitat. We can appreciate that world without making its value depend on how useful or beautiful it is to us.

Curiosity asks us to keep learning. Care asks us to bring what we learn into our choices. The sea is a place to meet with attention.
