The edge of a mountain view is not the edge of its story. Water gives us another way to see the Himalayas: part of systems that continue beyond the peaks.
ICIMOD studies connections between mountain snow, ice, climate, and water. Changes in glaciers and snowpack affect these systems and matter to downstream communities.
That connection does not reduce a mountain to what it provides. Its habitats, wild lives, and human communities each deserve thoughtful attention. Respect can include listening to people who know a place closely.
A wider view keeps wonder and responsibility together. We can admire a ridge, learn about its changing conditions, and remain curious about the lives our first glance missed.
