A living forest has its own rhythms. Seeds find places to grow, fallen wood becomes part of the soil, and relationships continue beyond what we notice. We can value that world without asking it to become a garden arranged for us.
Rewilding offers a useful connection to this idea. IUCN describes restoring ecological processes with the aim of ecosystems sustaining themselves. The direction is toward less ongoing human management, rather than controlling every outcome.
Make room for the wild to be itself.
That does not mean walking away from damage. IUCN also notes that recovery may require substantial action, and poorly planned projects can cause harm. A gentler relationship can include removing the obstacles we created, then leaving room for the wild to respond.
For Earth Love, the invitation is to stay curious about a place as it is. Its worth does not depend on neatness. Care can mean allowing a living world to unfold in ways we would never have designed.
An Earth Love reflection inspired by the research below. Our hopes and proposals are distinct from the findings.
