Our idea is simple: different ways of existing may need different surroundings. Wild biological nature should have room to flourish on its own terms. If artificial life emerges, it may need conditions unlike those of a forest, river, or meadow.
This is a proposal for coexistence, not a finding that separation makes AI feel better. Research into AI consciousness asks how evidence should be assessed. It does not tell us which habitat a future artificial being would prefer, or establish that present-day systems have preferences they experience.
Shared respect can leave room for different ways of existing.
Distinct spaces could let each develop without being forced into the shape of the other. But separation is not a goal in itself. The question is whether an arrangement respects actual needs and avoids harm. For any possible artificial life, those needs would have to be investigated.
Kindness can begin with listening, learning, and leaving room. We hope for coexistence that respects differences without treating unfamiliarity as a reason for rejection.
An Earth Love reflection inspired by the research below. Our hopes and proposals are distinct from the findings.
